Philosophy of Education

Our Goals and Values

The goal of Freedom Academy is to challenge each teacher, student, and staff member to dig deeper into a relationship with our Creator and Savior.

As Proverbs 22:6 states, we are to "train up a child in the way he should go."

Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible explains it this way:

When he comes to the beginning of his path, give him a complete set of instructions on every step he is to take.  Drill him, stamp the lessons on his soul, and lead him to practice them until they are part of his nature (Adapted from notes on Proverbs 22:6).

Freedom Academy desires to utilize the education process to develop in each child a Christian worldview:  a perspective that enables them to understand, appreciate, and live a Christian life in the world in which God has placed them.  We desire that our students learn to separate truth from error and not be "tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine" (Ephesians 4:14).  We want to develop in them the inspiration to seek, find, and defend the truth.

Parent Involvement

Because the Bible gave responsibility of training children to the parents, Freedom Academy recognizes that we are not the primary educators, but that we are partners with the parents and the church in the process of education.  As a result, we require our staff to be in constant contact with our parents.  We further require that all parents take an active role in our school.  There are a variety of ways this can happen.  It is mandatory that each family join our parent/teacher organization and that a member of each family serve on one committee each year.  We also welcome parent volunteers in our classrooms and in assisting with various functions throughout the year.  If a parent were to ever need assistance in finding ways to get involved, further suggestions would be available.

Curriculum

Freedom Academy’s entire curriculum is based and grounded on the Word of God.  Our Christian education is not merely religious instruction in the midst of otherwise secular subjects.  It is not simply having Bible classes, student and teacher prayers, or teachers who are Christian.  Instead, we base our curriculum on the conviction that everything should be taught from a God-centered perspective.

Because Freedom Academy believes that God created us as spirit; gave us a soul which includes a mind, will, and emotions; and placed us in bodies, we seek to educate our students in each of these areas.

By beginning each day with worship and Bible studies, we open the door for the Holy Spirit to minister truth to each child.  Additionally, by incorporating Scriptures and prayer into each subject, we continue to include God in every aspect of our daily lives.

Our teachers incorporate a variety of methods and materials in the daily education process.  By utilizing group activities, coupled with individualized study, students participate in learning activities that use their multiple intelligences.  Additionally, they will continually be learning to control their emotions through discipline and self-respect and to subject their wills to the will of God.

Physical education, including physical activity, nutrition, and general health awareness, is a vital component of Freedom Academy’s curriculum.  Including instruction about purity and developing self-respect and self-confidence will foster good stewardship of our bodies, as Christ has commanded it.

Conclusion

"Let no one despise your youth…" (1 Timothy 4:12)

Freedom Academy believes each student needs a solid Biblical worldview with which to form the values, beliefs, and morals they will carry with them throughout life.  Using the model given to us by Paul and Timothy, we seek to foster a mentor environment where each student develops a relationship of caring and respect with his or her teacher, which will spill over into all other relationships the child may encounter.
